Don't be afraid. The truth is out there. It just seems unattainable and elusive. If we let ourselves get intimidated by the deeper things in life, our creative minds will most likely shrivel up and go stale. The result of this mindlessness leads to a life robbed of its potential happiness and excitement. We have all seen the product of a life stuck on autopilot. Our vision narrows, we go through our pre-programmed day like zombies and every step is stuck in a routine. It seems like we create this "reality" for ourselves to feel safe and comforted from the harsh truths surrounding us. Depression creeps in and seems to drown out every ounce of enjoyment from our boring lives. Why this self torture? Why this inherent fear of the unknown? Why do we place these expectations on ourselves to conform to our society's norms? Why are we so sad and unfulfilled?

- Depressive disorders affect approximately 18.8 million American adults or about 9.5% of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year. This includes major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, and bipolar disorder. [1]
- Everyone, will at some time in their life be affected by depression -- their own or someone else's, according to Australian Government statistics. (Depression statistics in Australia are comparable to those of the US and UK.) [2]
- Pre-schoolers are the fastest-growing market for antidepressants. At least four percent of preschoolers -- over a million -- are clinically depressed. [3]
This is so incredibly sad. Even our children are falling into the trap of a haunted mind. I believe there are reasons for this that go beyond the chemical imbalances of our physical minds. Something deeper is going on here, and it's progressively getting worse. Is it perhaps linked to the fact that we block out the beauty of reality by resisting the power of our evolving minds? This routine-based society is obviously drowning out the deeper meaning and purposes that lay dormant in our hearts and minds. We have to allow for our minds to expand, for our understanding to deepen, and for our natural creative juices to flow. When we block our creative mind from doing what it naturally wants to do, I believe that we are actually harming ourselves. The tempo of our crazy lives will eventually catch up with us. The way we are living in our culture, especially in the western world, is practically designed to burn us out. What follows then is depression, anxiety, mental disorders, and lack of reason to live. So what do we do then? How do we stop this self-deprecating cycle and experience freedom? We have to allow for our minds to be free from the incredible amount of clutter that we fill it with. Slow down! Stop and think...
The mind holds the keys to unlocking the mysteries that surround us and confound us. Almost every major breakthrough in our world is linked to someone who was willing to think through the processes needed to overcome our obvious deficiencies. Think about the wonderful breakthroughs we have seen in the last few centuries and how it has greatly improved our quality of life; milestones in medicine, science, philosophy, religion, invention, art, music, engineering, and many other fields have made a better world for most of us. What if all these great minds decided not to stop and think? What if they where too caught up in their drone-like routines? Where would our society be without the power of the mind? I believe the answer to be quite obvious.
So do me a favor people: break free of your mental chains and dare to think. You might not be the next Einstein or Aristotle, but if you allow for your mind to be free you will see new and exciting things that will greatly improve your life and the lives of those around you. Humanity has a long way to go, but the next breakthrough is just around the corner. Maybe you will discover it. Don't be afraid of the truth, whatever that may be, but embrace the journey that leads you to it.
